Roxlee (aka Roque Federizon Lee) is a fine artist, cartoonist and animator from the Philippines who uses his work to cast a curious, satiric eye on the world around him, and he melds fiction with fact in this "creative documentary" he wrote and directed. In the 16th Century, before Spanish colonists arrived in the Philippines, the primary language on the islands was Baybayin, a form of writing that seems to have disappeared. Or has it? Roxlee sets out to unearth the history of this lost language, and see if anyone is still using it today. Roxlee and his camera crew travel across the country, looking for clues to a lost portion of their cultural heritage, and what they find ranges from the political and spiritual to the playfully absurd. The film also includes animated sequences created by Roxlee from his cartoons. Green Rocking Chair was an official selection at the 2009 Rotterdam International Film Festival.
