Four friends decide to embark on a road trip after burying the group's fifth member. The four friends are also the film's four directors, and 'Road to Ythaca' is just as much a personal, existential and semi-mythological journey, as it is a trip along the beaten path to the title's fabled destination, which is a must-see for all tourists – or to some dramatic climax. Not that much is said along the way. The individual situations stand for themselves, and are all the stronger for it; the group that gets lost on its drive through the desert in the middle of the night and sings songs in the glow of the headlights, a trippy dream journey. Fans of the underrated 'desert film' and the American veteran director Monte Hellman will nod approvingly at the silent, mutual understanding between the friends.
